PORT of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) has become the first container terminal in Malaysia to handle over 12.25 million TEU in a single year for the year 2024.
This achievement surpassed PTP's previous record of 11.2 million TEU set in 2021, according to London's Port Technology International.
The 12 millionth TEU was recorded at about 7.00 pm on December 23, 2024. Additionally, on September 22, 2024, PTP achieved an exceptional 14,036 quayside moves within a 12-hour shift.
In July 2024, PTP achieved its highest monthly milestone, handling 1.1 million TEU.
PTP is now ranked as the fifth most efficient container port in the world, according to the Container Port Performance Index (CPPI) 2023 by The World Bank and S&P Global Market Intelligence.
PTP is also ranked 15th among the world's top container ports in terms of volume throughput, as highlighted by Lloyd's List.
PTP chairman, Tan Sri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh, said: '2024 has been nothing short of extraordinary. It is gratifying to witness how PTP has risen to the occasion, embracing challenges with courage and transforming them into opportunities for growth and innovation.
