MAERSK LINE is to add Hazira, India on the Europe-Middle East 3 (ME-3) with its first sailing westbound effective March 4.
The 1,203-TEU Nedlloyd Asia will depart from Pipavav with a six-week turnaround rotating through Port Said (SCCT), Mersin, Istanbul-Ambarli, Izmit Korfezi, Port Said, Jeddah, Jebel Ali, Pipavav, Hazira, Mumbai-Nhava Sheva, Jebel Ali, Salalah and back to Port Said.
Hazira is a popular destination lying 120 nautical miles north in the Gujarat state in north western India along with Kandla, Mundra and Pipavav. Maersk Line will benefit from the port's new Adani Hazira Container Terminal (AHCT), said Alphaliner.
But carriers have not made it a regular call due to administrative delays, noted Alphaliner. Initially, the French carrier CMA CGM called on December 24 on its Kenya Express relay service (KEX) but has yet to repeat the call.
Both CSCL and UASC have listed Hazira on their jointly operated East Med-West Asia GEM joint service, launched in November but have not as yet called there. PIL is considering a call at Hazira as well.
This also goes for Indian carrier Orient Express Lines and Shreyas Shipping (divisions of Transworld Group) listing it as a port call on its Western India cabotage network with no calls made yet.
