LUFTHANSA CARGO's board has approved an investment to upgrade logistics facilities in Frankfurt to enable the company to react to market developments, said the company statement.
Modernisation of the cargo centre has already begun this month and is expected to be completed in 2028.
'With this renewal of our logistics centre, we are investing in our air freight base in Frankfurt and thus creating the structural requirements for even faster and more efficient air freight. In doing so, we are also making the jobs of our employees at our most important logistics location in Germany safe for the future,' said Lufthansa Cargo CEO Peter Gerber.
Lufthansa Cargo chief operations officer Harald Gloy declared the infrastructure programme to be special for the company.
'The special thing about our infrastructure programme is that it is able to react flexibly to market developments and the changing needs of our customers. The holistically planned upgrading of the building infrastructure in combination with improvements to the logistics system and internal material flows will further increase the handling speed of shipments as well as the service quality for all Lufthansa Cargo customers,' said Mr Gloy.
The cargo centre handles 80 per cent of its global freight volume, and is dedicated to digitisation, new product requirements, and the further increasing importance of e-commerce.
