MAJOR logistics provider Fiege Group will take over a portion of the physical freight handling at the Lufthansa Cargo Centre in Frankfurt, the German flag carrier announced.
Fiege will take over handling and co-ordination of inbound and outbound standard shipments in several phases until mid 2021, said Lufthansa.
The physical cargo handling processes at the Lufthansa Cargo Centre had already been outsourced to various companies.
'The new cooperation model will reduce the number of direct interfaces for Lufthansa Cargo, enabling us to make optimum use of the advantages of digitisation. FACL will be an important partner for us in all aspects of physical handling at the Frankfurt hub,' said Lufthansa vice president Mohammad Ali Seiraffi, the centre's chief.
Said Fiege managing director Felix Scherberich: 'We look forward to contributing our expertise in digitisation to the Lufthansa Cargo Centre. We will help synchronise the logistics processes in ground handling with the modernised IT infrastructure.'.
