HYUNDAI Merchant Marine (HMM) and Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate the supply of clean marine fuels, reports London's Port Technology.
Under this agreement, the focus will be on bunkering methanol and LNG at Shanghai, aligning with carbon reduction targets and advancing global cooperation in new energy for shipping, supporting energy transformation and sustainable development.
hmm has committed to achieving net-zero emissions across its entire business by 2050, emphasising the necessity of developing port bunkering infrastructure for clean marine fuels.
HMM is actively expanding sustainable eco-supply chain networks at Shanghai Port and other major ports, such as Singapore and Busan.
Furthermore, HMM has secured contracts for the construction of nine 9,000 TEU methanol-powered vessels and plans to operate two 7,700 TEU LNG-powered tankers by year-end.
SIPG continues to promote the development of green and ecological ports, providing bonded LNG bunkering services to numerous shipping companies globally since 2022.
According to HMM, all preparations for green methanol bunkering at Shanghai have been finalised.
'Through this cooperation with SIPG, we have expanded our green fuel supply chain in China, following Korea and Singapore. We will continue to strive for various efforts to find a way to go green,' said an HMM Official.
