ESSEN-BASED public utility E.ON has opened four charging stations for electric trucks on the premises of the hamburg Port Authority (HPA), reports London's Port Technology International.
Each charging bay has its 400-kilowatt station, allowing vehicles to recharge during the 45-minute break mandated by law. Depending on the model, this offers enough energy for 300 kilometres of driving.
The facility and infrastructure deployed are intended to enable future upgrades to megawatt charging stations. With charging capacity at the megawatt level, this technology will allow for significantly faster charging times in the future.
The parking and charging bays, which are three metres wide and 25 metres long, can also accommodate articulated vehicles, eliminating the need to uncouple the trailer or semi-trailer.
Ludolf von Maltzan, business manager Germany at E.ON Drive Infrastructure, said: 'When it comes to truck charging stations, we pay special attention to the needs of drivers and transport companies.
'Our new charging station in Hamburg demonstrates this: convenient charging with enough space for different vehicle types, an easy to find location directly on the motorway and a charging capacity of up to 400 kilowatts per vehicle. This means that the break can be ideally used for quick intermediate charging.'
