THE Hong Kong Association of Freight Forwarding and Logistics (HAFFA) recently held its annual general meeting (AGM) for 2022, where chairman Gary Lau took the opportunity to outline the association's achievements over the last 12 months in his report.
He listed a number of significant breakthroughs made by haffa on behalf of its members over the course of his first term as chairman. Among them was the recent moratorium on the liberalisation of the Regulated Cargo Fuel Surcharge (CFS) Mechanism until June 30, 2024.
Mr Lau said the other notable achievement last year was the formulation of a Revised Mechanism of Handling Deficiencies Committed by Regulated Agents (RA) / Regulated Air Cargo Screening Facilities (RACSF).
He also spoke about the implementation of Enhanced Control, Surveillance and Inspection Measures for Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air to achieve an optimal balance between safety and operational imperatives.
While strengthening its close working relationships with numerous government departments and trade bodies on behalf of its members, Mr Lau stressed the importance of the association's voice in widening the dissemination of accurate industry information and nurturing business confidence in the sector.
Since 2011, the term of each HAFFA executive committee has been two years in order to facilitate continuity of the association's vision and policy implementation.
The next HAFFA election will be held next year for the 2023/2025 term.
