FRANCE-HEADQUARTERD logistics company geodis has taken a significant first step by switching to 100 per cent renewable energy in Denmark as of January 2024.
At the beginning of the year, GEODIS committed to the Science Based Targets Initiative, reports Greece's Container News.
The company's global objectives included reducing scope 1 and 2 CO2 emissions by 42 per cent and decreasing the carbon intensity of subcontracted transport (scope 3) by 2030 compared to 2022.
'When we started the process, we were looking for a more-low-carbon alternative to what we had before. We chose EWII and now our electricity is 100 per cent renewable.
This means we have reduced our CO2 footprint by almost forty tonnes per year. We are very proud to support this very necessary and important initiative and to have taken a significant leap towards reaching our target,' stated Kent Husted, managing director, of GEODIS Denmark.
According to the terms of the EWII certificate, valid from 1 January 2024 to 31 December 2025, GEODIS Denmark's entire electricity consumption is certified as renewable by the energy supplier. EWII ensures that 100 per cent of the electricity comes from sources such as wind turbines, solar panels, hydroelectric power, and biomass.
In addition to reducing its carbon footprint, GEODIS Denmark has converted all lighting to LED and acquired new computer screens that use one-third less electricity than the previous ones. The company also offers four charging points for electric vehicles at each of its branches in Kastrup and Vejle, with plans to expand this later in the year.
'As a company and as an employer, GEODIS places social issues at the heart of its concerns. One of our seven Golden Rules that form the basis of our operations, is 'Be a good citizen'.
