MEMBERS of the G6 alliance on the Asia-Europe route have cancelled sailings for vessel maintenance during the peak season in July, August and September, reports Lloyd's Loading List.
Normally vessel maintenance on liner routes is staggered, but in this case, maintenance sessions have been booked in he peak season when forward shipping look weak, noted the report.
OOCL said Loop 6 vessel, the 8,749-TEU Tsingtao Express, which was to call at Southampton on July 24, has been withdrawn. The 10,700-TEU APL Paris voyage from Qingdao on Loop 7 on July 3 has also been voided.
At least five sailings on the Asia-Med ABX Black Sea service between weeks 28-44 have been cancelled as part of a vessel maintenance scheme, carriers say.
Three G6 alliance members reportedly gave notice they intended to withdraw from the ABX service with Hong Kong's OOCL website saying the westbound loop had been "withdrawn" to be followed by a withdrawal of the eastbound service. Since then, the G6 ABX service has been restored, but with cancelled sailings.
