JAPAN's Mitsui OSK (MOL) Lines has contracted a salvage company whose vessels are proceeding to the area where the 8,000-TEU MOL Comfort which split in two in a storm June 17 and was first reported to have sunk, before aft and forward sections re-appeared still floating and adrift off the Yemeni coast.
The 26-man crew took to the lifeboats and were picked up by the Hapag Lloyd's 7,500-TEU Yantian Express which happened to be in the area,
MOL said a patrol boat and three tugs are heading to the site from Dubai, and all were expected to arrive yesterday June 24, but there was no word of their arrival in MOL's daily bulletin dated June 24.
Some of the containers might be lost or damaged during the incident, but most of the cargo is confirmed to be aboard the fore and aft sections, said the MOL daily update.
