SOUTH AFRICA has been accused by the US ambassador of supplying Russia with arms to fight the Ukrainian war though many doubt that the country could supply anything useful.
But US Ambassador to South Africa Reuben Brigety said he was confident that a Russian ship had picked up weapons in South Africa in December, in a possible breach of Pretoria's declared neutrality in the Ukraine conflict.
Meanwhile Britain is sending Ukraine long-range cruise missiles to help it fight the Russian invasion, said British Defence Secretary Ben Wallace.
The deployment of the Storm Shadow missiles, with a range of 250 kilometres, is the first known shipment of the type of weaponry that Kiev has long sought from its Western allies.
Mr Wallace told MPs in the House of Commons that the missiles 'are now going into or are in the country itself' but did not say how many.
South African Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana said his country had resolved a dispute with the US over allegations that Pretoria supplied weapons to Russia, and South Africa is unlikely to face US repercussions, reports Bloomberg.
'A number of actions were taken in order to ensure that our relationship with the US remains and that relationship should be normal and cordial,' the minister told Bloomberg.
