FRESH fruit is a key export growth commodity through the Port of Melbourne, with 28,800 TEU exported through the port last year, reports Netherlands' fresh Plaza.
The last five years saw a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.2 per cent, with 2021 seeing 27,804 TEU of fresh fruit exported through the Port.
The top three export destinations are Hong Kong, Japan and China, which have remained steady the past five years, taking 55 per cent of total fresh fruit exports in 2021.
The port has a 30-year strategy which involves a capital expenditure programme of US$1.5 billion over the next 20 years to help the capacity required to support greater east-coast trade activity.
