CONTAINER dwell times at Felixstowe, Britain's major container port, have soared following a major dock strike over pay, reports London's Port Technology.
Since the dock strike began, analysis firm FourKites saw a significant increase in days at terminal for containers currently at the facility.
The day the strike began, export shipments at the Port of felixstowe had been at terminal for 5.2 days on average. Five days later, that increased to 9.4 days, an 82 per cent increase.
Over the same time period, the average days at terminal for export shipments at some of Europe's largest ports Rotterdam, Hamburg, Bremerhaven and Antwerp increased by only nine per cent.
The Felixstowe strike ended on August 2- but last week dockers threatened that walkouts that could last until Christmas.
Felixstowe is the UK's largest container gateway which handles 4 million TEU a year.
