IOWA Republican Senator Chuck Grassley rose in the Senate Tuesday January 28 to endorse the confirmation of former Wisconsin Congressman Sean Duffy, 34, as US Secretary of Transportation.
Mr Duffy has a marketing degree from St Mary's University, and a law degree from William Mitchell College of Law.
He has served a prosecutor, lobbyist, and reality television personality who has served as a Wisconsin Congressman from 2011 to 2019. After resigning from Congress, he became a lobbyist.[
Said Mr Grassley: 'I look forward to working with former Congressman Duffy to support long-term infrastructure policies to keep our manufacturing and our agriculture sectors robust and to support our state and local communities that depend on their jobs.'
'Infrastructure is essential to the economy, trade, and vitality of each of our 50 States. In Iowa, it is fundamental to moving our agriculture products, manufacturing goods, and, of course, our 3.3 million people.
'I have long supported sound, sustainable infrastructure policies that provide certainty to businesses, states, and the transportation community.
'Businesses and state and local governments need long-term visions and plans to ensure our infrastructure structure networks remain strong and support economic growth and competitiveness,' said Mr Grassley.
'We are soon faced, in this body and in the entire Congress, with reauthorizing surface transportation laws. I am glad that Congressman Duffy understands, from representing Northwest Wisconsin, that rural America has many infrastructure needs - as many as urban areas,' Mr Grassley said.
In November, the then President-elect Donald Trump named Mr Duffy as his nominee for Secretary of Transportation. He was confirmed by the United States Senate to the office on January 28 by a vote of 77-22 and was sworn in later that day.
