TAIWAN shipping giant evergreen Marine declared it would no longer use the military-owned port terminal in Myanmar, as a growing number of companies cut ties with junta-linked businesses, reports Agence France-Presse.
Myanmar has been in turmoil since the February 2021 coup, with over 1,500 dead in a military crackdown on dissent.
With the economy tanking and pressure from human rights groups, companies including France's TotalEnergies, British American Tobacco and Norway's Telenor are trying to leave.
Evergreen's ships occasionally docked at the Hteedan Port Terminal in Yangon, stating the arrangements had been made by a local partner contracted to service its vessels
Evergreen did not say when or why it would act or if it would still send vessels to other ports in the country.
