GIANT eu budget supermarket chain Lidl has registered a new container shipping company to replace its regular carriers, reports Singapore's Splash 247.
Tailwind Shipping Lines is the name of Lidl's new company. 'The goal is to be able to manage the increased volume of different production facilities more flexibly in the long term,' said Lidl logistics chief Wolf Tiedemann.
Lidl, based in Neckarsulm 35 miles north of Stuttgart, operates 11,200 stores and is active in 32 countries, recently entering the US market.
Many well-known retail names including Ikea, Walmart, and Home Depot opted to charter in their own ships due to the Covid crisis.
