The four cranes comprising a super postpanamax gantry crane and three RTGs complete the first phase of the modernization of the Ecuadorian port to serve neo-panamax boxships.
Said DP World country manager Nicolas Gauthier: 'Our computer platforms and technology allow the port's activities to continue to develop and be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.'
The US$538 million first phase of DP World's new deep-water port of Posorja was completed last October.
The $1.2 billion in total project aims to replicate Dubai's Jebel Ali Port and Free Zone, making Ecuador a trade and logistics hub for South America's west coast, and opening a gateway for large containerships with capacities exceeding 10,000 TEU.
Posorja is expected to receive an annual volume of 750,000 TEU during the first phase, and 1.5 million TEU at full port capacity. The port is equipped with state of-the-art technology, world-class infrastructure, and the largest gantry cranes in South America.
