DHL Group experienced a rise in both air and ocean freight volumes in the second quarter of this year, leading to a slight year-on-year increase in overall group revenue, reports London's Air Cargo News.
The express and logistics giant reported a 5.3 per cent increase in air freight volumes, reaching 437,000 tonnes, while ocean freight volumes grew 6.4 per cent.
Despite the volume growth, second-quarter air revenues rose 3.6 per cent year-on-year to US$1.64 billion, with air gross profits dropping 16.9 per cent to $267 million.
However, gross profit fell 7.9 per cent to $1.31 billion, and EBIT declined 28.1 per cent to $304 million.
DHL's air volume growth lagged behind competitors Kuehne+Nagel and DSV, which reported increases of 7.3 per cent and ten per cent, respectively, during the same period
