On Aug 14, 2018, the wreck of the Chilean wellboat 'Seikongen' which should already have arrived at the port of Talcahuano on Aug 12, had to be anchored in Ancud, north of the island of Chiloé, which is only 80 kilometers in line from where the towage started. The reason was en engine damage of the 'Taltal'. The convoy had started the towing operation from the village of Chonchi south of Castro on the island of Chiloé to Talcahuano in the night hours. As a replacement, the tug 'Allipen', was sent from the Bío-Bío region to the scene. Actually there were challenging weather conditions on the way north and the crews wanted to wait until the weather has improved. In addition, certificates must be approved for the new tug . The biggest problem, however, was that the Court of Appeals in Concepcion denies the 'Seikongen' to dock in Talcahuano. The wellboat has to wait until a so-called 'Recurso de Protección' has been processed, which is a type of complaint that briefly implies that the Constitution provides individuals or groups with a right of appeal if they believe an action goes beyond constitutional rights. The mayor of Talcahuano, Henry Campos, delivered such a complaint last week. There must be around 100 tons of rotten salmon inside the 'Seikongen', and the rotten fish has created a poisonous gas called hydrogen sulphide, which ican be s potentially fatal to humans. Now the mayor of Ancud, Carlos Gómez, has stated that they will deliver a corresponding complaint. Gómez wants the 'Seikongen' to leave Ancud immediately. A number of local fishermen and organizations have protested that the wellboat has been moored in Ancud. When the 'Seikongen' has arrived at Talcahuano, the rotten salmon will be transported by lorries from the port to a special resort in the city of Florida, located about 40 kilometers away.
