THE covid crisis is still affecting the world's busiest container port in Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, with only one case causing a critical part of the harbour to close, reports CNN News.
The world's third busiest container port is back but the shipping crisis isn't over yet. The terminal Ningbo has been shut down since August 11 after a dock worker tested positive for Covid.
BIMCO shipping analyst Peter Sand declared that it could take up to 60 days for operations at the port to return to normal as workers and maritime pilots return from quarantine.
The terminal that's closed accounts for 25 per cent of container cargo through the port. It disrupted other ports in China, stretching supply chains that were suffering from recent problems at another Chinese port.
The close also added to congestion arising from the closure in June of Yantian, a port 50 miles north of Hong Kong that closed after infections were detected.
For the last 12 years, the Port of Ningbo has served as the world's largest port by cargo tonnage, handling 1.2 billion tons in 2020.
