CHINESE ports have handled 248.5 million TEU from January to September of 2024, representing a year-on-year increase of 7.7 per cent, according to London's Port Technology International.
The container throughput of Shanghai Port amounted to 4.25 million TEU in September, a year-on-year increase of 5 per cent. So far this year the port has handled an impressive 39.10 million TEU, an 8 per cent increase over last year's numbers.
The container throughput of Ningbo Zhoushan Port was 3.39 million TEU in September, an increase of 6.2 per cent in the same month last year.
In the first nine months of the year, Beibu Gulf Port had the largest margin of increase, having handled 6.5 million TEU, a year-on-year increase of 14.7 per cent, while the Port of Xiamen was the only port to record a deficit with a year-on-year decrease of 3.2 per cent, handling 9 million TEU.
In terms of container freight rates, the average value of Ningbo Containerized Freight Index (NCFI) was 1,549.4 points in October 2024, a month-on-month decrease of 12.1 per cent and a year-on-year increase of 138.5 per cent.
Among the 21 routes, the freight index of seven routes increased month on month, and the freight index of 14 routes fell month-on-month.
