JIANGSU New Yangzi, a division of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding in China, has successfully delivered the fourth LNG dual-fuel container vessel, boasting a capacity of 7,000 TEU, to Seaspan, reports Sarajevo's LNGPrime.
The ZIM Opal, measuring 272 metres in length, embarked on its inaugural journey on January 20.
Equipped with a type B LNG tank from Jiangsu Tianyang Green Ship Technology, a subsidiary of Yangzi-Mitsui Shipbuilding, the vessel is part of a larger project wherein Yangzijiang Shipbuilding is constructing a total of 15 such 7,000-TEU LNG dual-fuel container ships powered by MAN ME-GI engines for Seaspan.
This particular delivery is the fourth in the series, and all vessels will be operated by Zim under charter agreements previously signed between Zim and Seaspan in 2021.
In addition to these ships, Zim and Seaspan have placed orders for ten 15,000-TEU LNG dual-fuel vessels at South Korea's Samsung Heavy Industries.
The first vessel in this batch, ZIM Sammy Ofer, is equipped with MAN ME-GI engines and GTT's Mark III membrane technology.
