China, Russia and South Korea now resume "Xinlanhai" ferry service
A passenger and cargo ro-ro ship's arrival at Hunchun checkpoint has announced the reintroduction of a twice weekly sailings connecting Hunchun, China; Zarubino, Russia and Sokcho, South Korea, which is branded "Xinlanhai", reports Xinhua.
The Hunchun-Zarubino-Sokcho line, the Xinlanhai, provides the shortest route between northeast China, the Russian Far East and east coast South Korea, covering a distance of 585 kilometres.
Cai longsheng, Mayor of the Sokcho City of South Korea said the service, which was put into operation in April 2000, was cancelled in October 2010 because of the shipping company's financial decline.
The fastest sailing is 22 knots, which takes 16 hours from Sokcho to Zarubino port and one hour from the Zarubino to Hunchun.
The service made 1,163 voyages from 2000 to 2010 with cargo valued at CNY16.1 billion (US$2.59 billion) as well as moving more than 520,000 passengers, becoming a major link in northeast Asian region.
Jilin provincial Hunchun municipal party secretary Wang Jingyou said the reintroduction of the service will play an important role in accelerating the multilateral economic and trade exchanges and deepen northeast Asian regional cooperation.
