CHINA Airlines (CAL) has a reported a net profit of US$103 million during the January to March period, extending the airline's momentum, reports Taipei's Central News Agency.
The first-quarter net profit was a turnaround from the first quarter of 2021, helped by a 33.8 per cent year-on-year increase in first-quarter consolidated sales to $1.26 billion.
The carrier declared there are no signs of the tight ocean shipping market easing anytime soon.
CAL responded by providing its 21 planes with stable services possible to clients, resulting in higher revenue.
The peak season for shipments normally occurs in the fourth quarter but spilled into the first quarter of 2022.
That strong demand helped the carrier offset rising fuel costs and operating expenses.
CAL declared it saw little growth in the first quarter because of Taiwan's tight border controls to combat the Covid crisis.
Lockdowns in Hong Kong and china also hurt overall passenger volume.
However, traffic on its routes between Taiwan and the US, Europe, and Australia saw growth due to travel during the Lunar New Year holiday in February.
