BRAZIL's Portonave Terminal recorded a 29 per cent growth in 2021 and achieved the highest cargo volume in its history with 1.1 million TEU, according to the National Agency of River Transportation (ANTAQ).
Portonave maintained its leadership in productivity in Brazil for the third consecutive year. The Port of Navegantes (Portonave) remains the leader in container handling in southern Brazil.
In exports, 77 per cent of the products moved were wood and derivatives, and there was also a growth of 18.8 per cent in the shipment abroad of frozen proteins, reports Colchester's Seatrade Maritime News
As for imports, the growth was 38.6 per cent, with chemical products, plastics and derivatives, and textiles representing 57 per cent of the total imported cargo.
'With 14 years of operation, the Port reached a historical turnover of 1 million TEU,' said Portonave commercial manager Rodrigo Gomez. 'In addition, we closed the year with an increase of 18.8 per cent in reefer exports. We are successfully overcoming the challenges of the pandemic and will continue to grow in 2022.'
The Brazilian terminal has three berths on a 900-metre quay, with a shipyard with 400,000 square metres, a handling capacity of 1.3 million TEU per year, and more than 2,430 refrigerated outlets.
