CYBERSECURITY expert company SecurityScorecard has given the global commercial aviation industry a 'B' grade, but concerns remain due to vulnerabilities in extended digital supply chains, reports New York's Airport Technology.
The sector's performance is not uniform; airlines generally scored higher than some of their service providers, such as aviation-specific technology vendors.
This discrepancy poses a significant third-party risk for customers.
However, the risk is bidirectional, with some airlines also presenting third-party risks to vendors due to lax security measures.
'This research yielded three recent examples of breaches at airlines exposing information on their aerospace & aviation vendors,' said SecurityScorecard.
'Software and other IT products and services in general enable as much as 75 per cent of third-party breaches across all industries.'
