Yangzijiang Maritime Development orders 24 new vessels from Chinese shipyards, with deliveries set between 2028 and 2030.
Yangzijiang Maritime Development, listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange, has placed an order for a total of 24 newbuild vessels with various shipyards in China. Deliveries are scheduled to take place between 2028 and 2030.
The package consists of six 64,500 DWT bulk carriers, six 49,800 DWT product/chemical tankers, four 28,000 DWT stainless steel chemical tankers, four 29,000 DWT stainless steel chemical tankers, and four 319,000 DWT crude oil tankers. Thus, the order spans both the dry bulk and high-specification tanker segments.
The delivery of the bulk carriers and the 319,000 DWT VLCCs is planned for the 2029-2030 period, while the other tankers are expected to be delivered between 2028 and 2030. The company also announced that it holds options for 16 additional vessels. If all options are exercised, the program could reach a total of 40 vessels.
Yangzijiang Maritime states that the vessels will be built to IACS standards and will feature proven designs that respond to tightening environmental regulations. However, details regarding the type of fuel, preparations for methanol or ammonia, scrubber equipment, and contract prices are not included in the publicly disclosed summary information.
The scale of the order indicates that there is ongoing demand for slots at Chinese shipyards beyond 2028. However, particularly in the VLCC segment, the backlog of orders accumulated throughout 2026 could rapidly increase fleet supply during the delivery peak in 2029-2030. The assumption that today's high tanker earnings will continue through the delivery of the orders should be approached with caution.
