    The 145,000 gt cruise ship Norwegian BREAKAWAY, whose construction has taken merely 17 months, has left MEYER WERFT’s covered building dock II on Tuesday.

    The 145,000 gt cruise ship Norwegian BREAKAWAY, whose construction has taken merely 17 months, has left MEYER WERFT’s covered building dock II on Tuesday, 26 February 2013. The float-out of the ship, which is built for the US cruise operator Norwegian Cruise Line, commenced around 7 a.m.Following the float-out the ship was berthed alongside the yard’s outfitting pier where more tests is to be carried.The 145,000 gt cruise ship has a length overall of 324m, and is 39.70m wide. Build in accordance with the latest safety standards, the ship meets all valid environmental regulations.With the ship being berthed at the yard’s pier, the remaining work and tests and trials will be carried out in the next few days. Within merely a couple of days, the first crew members will move into their cabins on board, and familiarize themselves with the ship itself and its numerous systems.The Norwegian BREAKAWAY’s conveyance down the river Ems towards the North Sea, where she will prove her seaworthiness, is scheduled for early March 2013.MEYER WERFT, based in Papenburg, Germany, is building Norwegian’s two new 146,600 gross ton, 4,000-passenger Breakaway class vessels: Norwegian Breakaway, scheduled for delivery in late April 2013, and Norwegian Getaway, scheduled for delivery in mid-January 2014. Prior to the Breakaway class ships, MEYER WERFT built Norwegian’s four Jewel-class ships – Norwegian Gem delivered in 2007, Norwegian Pearl and Norwegian Jade delivered in 2006, and Norwegian Jewel delivered in 2005.
