V Group signs contracts for two 1,930-TEU containerships, marking its entry into boxship ownership through its new unit, OceanV.
Greek conglomerate V Group has signed contracts for two 1,930-TEU containerships from Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard, marking its debut in boxship ownership, according to reports from Singapore's Splash 247.
Based in Piraeus and led by Vyron Vasileiadis, V Group is primarily known for its operations in port reception facilities, emergency response, decontamination services, and waste-to-fuel technology. The company is entering the liner shipping sector through a newly established unit called OceanV.
The order includes two Bangkokmax vessels scheduled for delivery in late 2028 and early 2029, with options for two additional sister ships. Typically, ships of this class are conventionally powered and priced at approximately US$30 million each.
Splash noted that V Group's strategic move reflects a broader trend among Greek tanker and bulker owners diversifying into the containership market.
