The US Navy has deployed over 15 warships to enforce a blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, impacting Iranian maritime traffic amid rising tensions.

The US blockade of the Strait of Hormuz has taken effect, with more than 15 US Navy warships deployed to enforce the naval cordon, reports Fort Lauderdale's Maritime Executive.

The blockade will be applied against vessels entering or departing Iranian ports, covering areas in the Gulf and Gulf of Oman. Non-Iranian traffic, including Omani domestic shipping, will not be affected. Mariners have been advised to contact US forces on channel 16 when operating in the approaches.

US forces face potential threats from Iranian drones, missiles, and fast attack craft. CENTCOM has prepared to interdict or respond to such attacks, though the blockade does not coincide with a resumption of air warfare. Operations may be conducted deeper into the Gulf of Oman to reduce escalation risks.

A mine clearance operation is expected to follow the blockade. Oil confiscated at sea may be redirected into the market to maintain supply without benefiting Iran financially.

Iran has warned of retaliation against Gulf infrastructure. State outlet IRIB stated that port access would be 'either for everyone or for no one.' Gulf states are bracing for such attacks, with some considering their own responses to increased Iranian aggression.

AIS data showed two sanctioned tankers, Elpis and Rich Starry, transiting the waterway. Elpis paused west of Jask, while Rich Starry, a Chinese-owned vessel, entered the Gulf of Oman. China, the largest buyer of Iranian oil, presents a diplomatic complication for any interdiction.
