Erol Bey, a Turkish energy vessel, departed Havana on November 2, marking a significant moment in Cuba's electricity generation efforts.
The Spanish news agency EFE reported that the Erol Bey departed from Havana on Monday, November 2, at around 14:30 local time. As of the time the agency reported the news, Cuban authorities had not made any statement regarding the ship's departure.
The Cuban Ministry of Energy and Mines had previously reported in April that Erol Bey and Belgin Sultan were stationed in Havana, and that the total installed capacity of the two floating power plants was 124 megawatts. According to EFE's figures, 63 megawatts of this capacity belonged to Erol Bey.
Cuba has been utilizing Karpowership's floating power plants since 2019 to support electricity generation due to malfunctions in its land-based power plants. At one point, the Turkish fleet operating in the Havana and Mariel bays reached a total of eight ships. According to EFE's count, Erol Bey became the seventh unit to depart from the island.
