President Trump reveals plans for a hospital ship in Greenland, collaborating with Governor Jeff Landry amid local opposition to U.S. policies.
President Trump stated in a post on his social media account that a hospital ship is 'on its way' to Greenland. He noted that they are working with Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry, whom he appointed as the Special Representative for Greenland, saying, 'We are sending a great hospital ship to Greenland to care for patients who are not being treated there.'
Greenland residents had previously opposed Trump's policy towards the island, expressing their satisfaction with being able to receive free healthcare through Denmark's social welfare system.
'FRAMEWORK AGREEMENT' BETWEEN THE U.S. AND NATO REGARDING GREENLAND
On January 17, Trump announced that a 10% tariff would be imposed on goods imported from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Finland starting February 1, due to their opposition to the U.S. acquiring Greenland, with this rate set to increase to 25% on June 1. During his meetings in Davos, Trump stated that they had established a 'framework agreement' regarding Greenland with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, and in this context, he announced that he had halted the planned customs tariffs on eight European countries set to take effect on February 1.
Regarding his meeting with Rutte, Trump commented, 'As a result of this meeting, we have established a framework for a future agreement concerning Greenland and the entire Arctic region. If this solution comes to fruition, it will be a great solution for the U.S. and all NATO countries.'
Trump also mentioned that additional discussions would be held regarding the 'Dome' defense system related to Greenland, stating that the entire process would be managed by Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and his Special Representative Steve Witkoff.
