A worker lost his life after being struck by a heavy metal piece during dismantling operations at a ship recycling facility in the Aliağa district of İzmir.
The incident occurred in the afternoon at the site operated by Sök Denizcilik, located within the Aliağa Ship Recycling Facilities. According to the information obtained, Galip Avcı (65), who came from Bergama and worked as a field cutter at the facility, was hit by a heavy metal piece during the dismantling work. Upon notification, 112 Emergency Health and police teams were dispatched to the area. Health teams determined that the worker had died at the scene.
Avcı's body was taken to the İzmir Forensic Medicine Institute morgue for autopsy procedures following an investigation by the prosecutor's office. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
