The Turkish Shipowners Association honors the Cabotage Law's centenary with a film showcasing the evolution of Turkey's maritime fleet.
The Turkish Shipowners' Association (TAB) has prepared a special short film that addresses the transformation of the Turkish maritime trade fleet from past to present, in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Cabotage Law, which symbolizes the Republic's economic independence at sea.
The film narrates the maritime journey that began in the 1920s with lighters carrying cargo and coal in the Golden Horn. It covers the development of domestic maritime transportation following cabotage, the growth of coastal fleets, the rise of tankers and cargo ships, and extends to today's modern trading fleet. Historical archival footage is blended with modern maritime elements throughout the film.
In an official statement made on the occasion of the film's release, Cihan Ergenç, Chairman of the Board of the Turkish Shipowners' Association, expressed the following words verbatim:
"The Cabotage Law, which came into effect on July 1, 1926, is not only a legal regulation but also a historic turning point that declares Turkey's economic sovereignty at sea. Today, the global success achieved by Turkish shipping is the result of a century of effort, vision, and determination."
