The 100th anniversary of the Cabotage Law, one of the symbols of Turkish maritime's journey towards independence and sovereignty, will be celebrated with a special short film prepared by the Turkish Shipowners' Association.
The project prepared for the 100th anniversary of the Cabotage Law, which came into effect on July 1, 1926, aims to present the century-long development of Turkey's maritime sector to the audience with historical and modern visuals.
The short film, prepared with the message 'Cabotage is a Right, It is Sovereignty,' focuses on the journey of Turkish maritime from national foundations to international success. The film narrates the transformation from maritime activities in the early years of the Republic to today's global trading fleet.
According to the statement from the Turkish Shipowners' Association, the short film is planned to be released on June 29-30, 2026. The production will reach viewers through social media accounts, sectoral WhatsApp groups, the YouTube channel, and other digital communication platforms.
The Cabotage Law, adopted in 1926, is considered one of the important milestones for economic independence and national sovereignty at sea, as it granted the right to transport cargo and passengers in Turkey's territorial waters to Turkish-flagged vessels.
