SC Ports consolidates container operations at Wando and North Charleston terminals starting August 1 to enhance competitiveness and service.
South Carolina Ports will consolidate container operations at its Wando and North Charleston terminals starting August 1, as announced by the port authority. This strategic move delays activity at Leatherman Terminal amid industry headwinds and uncertain trade volumes.
SC Ports stated that this decision reflects its commitment to cost competitiveness and long-term growth. President and CEO Micah Mallace emphasized that the port is collaborating with maritime partners to retain existing business and attract new customers to Charleston.
The Wando and North Charleston terminals will provide sufficient capacity for current and future volumes during this pause. Shippers and carriers have been assured of continued reliable and personalized service.
Mr. Mallace reiterated that SC Ports remains an economic driver and job creator for South Carolina, dedicated to delivering exceptional service and supporting growth for the maritime industry and connected businesses.
SC Ports owns and operates marine terminals at the Port of Charleston and inland rail-served ports in Greer and Dillon. Ranked as the eighth largest container port in the U.S., SC Ports connects Southeast businesses to global markets and supports one in nine jobs statewide.
