Transshipment containers handled by Saudi ports rose by 8.22% in November, reaching a total of 162,252 TEU, according to a report by Jeddah's Saudi Gazette.
This increase occurred despite a 2.97% decline in total handled containers, which fell to 649,286 TEU from 669,174 TEU in November 2022, as reported by the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani).
Mawani also noted a slight growth in overall cargo volumes, which increased by 0.21% to 17.82 million tons. This total included 1.19 million tons of general cargo, 4.02 million tons of dry bulk, and 12.61 million tons of liquid bulk.
However, imported containers decreased by 6.83% to 241,494 TEU, while exported containers fell by 5.58% to 245,540 TEU.
Maritime traffic saw a rise of 6.81%, with 1,020 vessels recorded. Additionally, passenger numbers surged by 70.01% to 112,927, while vehicle volumes declined by 22.68% to 77,134. Saudi ports also received 722,140 cattle heads, marking a 0.78% increase year over year.
Mawani stated that these improvements support economic activity, tourism, marine services, and supply chains, while reinforcing food security goals under the National Transport and Logistics Strategy.
In October, Mawani ports recorded a 12.19% increase in total handled containers, reaching 709,393 TEU compared to 632,323 TEU in the same month last year.
