VANCOUVER - The search continues Tuesday for two sailors who went missing after three men jumped off a tanker in Vancouver's English Bay over the weekend. By mid-Monday, the body of a Bangladeshi sailor was found off the shores of Spanish Banks. Police searched the bay, the beaches and nearby neighbourhoods from Kitsilano to the University of B.C. but didn't find the other two men. "They were known to have left the ship by a rope hanging off the side of the ship," said Insp. Steve Rai. The men were "obviously not prepared for weather in this part of the world and the water." "I'm assuming they thought it was close enough to the shore to make it, not knowing the water right now is about 10 C. Right now it looks like it's just a real tragic incident. Everything is pointing toward that." No life jackets or boats were missing from the ship. Police were told the men were missing at about 7 a.m. Monday after they failed to show up for work at 6 a.m. on their ship, MV Ginga Falcon. The 152-metre ship, which is registered in Panama and owned by Tokyo Marine, arrived in Vancouver at about 9 p.m. Sunday and was to take on cargo and fuel in Port Moody, B.C., before returning to Asia. Sometime between then and 4 a.m., the men, lightly attired in yellow rain gear, left the ship, which was moored a kilometre offshore. The two missing men are in their early 20s. The body of the dead man was found about 500 metres off shore.
