ROBERT Van De Weg has been appointed as the new chief executive of Mexico-based freighter carrier mas Air Cargo. Mr Van De Weg joins the airline from ECS Group where he had been working as chief commercial officer over the past five years.
He is well known in the industry having worked for a variety of cargo businesses since he joined air cargo in the early 1990s.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Mr Van De Weg started his air cargo career at KLM Cargo before going on to have roles at Atlas Air, Cargolux, AirBridgeCargo, AirWayCargo, CargoLogicManagment and ECS.
He also served on the board of directors for Champ CargoSystems.
Mr Van De Weg joins the airline as it is in the process of expanding its fleet. According to fleet tracking website PlaneSpotters, the airline recently took delivery of an Airbus A330-300 freighter and another is due to join.
The airline was once part of the LATAM Group but the company sold its stake in 2018.
