Recep Düzgit Announces His Candidacy for the Presidency of İMEAK DTO
Recep Düzgit, the Chairman of the Assembly of the İMEAK Chamber of Shipping (DTO), announced his candidacy for the Presidency of the Board of Directors during his speech at the June Assembly Meeting, for the chamber's organizational elections to be held in October-November 2026.
Starting his speech by thanking the current Chairman of the Board, Tamer Kıran, Düzgit stated that Kıran's speech serves as an important example in terms of chamber culture.
Düzgit said, 'He has given all of us a very valuable message today. Positions come and go, but institutions remain. Offices do not belong to individuals. They are responsibilities entrusted to us by our members. I wholeheartedly believe that this approach will serve as a model for our chamber's institutional culture for many years to come.'
These Positions Require Serious Sacrifice and Effort
Emphasizing that holding a position in the chamber's management is not as easy as it appears from the outside, Düzgit pointed out that these positions require serious responsibility and dedication.
'If you are to perform these duties properly, it requires significant sacrifice, effort, and integrity. Over the years, I have learned that what matters is not what individuals say, but what they do,' Düzgit expressed, noting that his experience in the maritime sector spans 32 years.
It Is Time to Serve Under Greater Responsibility
Stating that he is a graduate of Boğaziçi University’s Department of Economics and has a master's degree in economic law, Düzgit mentioned that he began his work in the maritime sector in 1994 with the studies on the Turkish Straits Maritime Traffic Regulation, and has held various positions within the Chamber of Shipping since 1995.
Düzgit emphasized that he is well aware of the chamber's operational structure, the needs of the sector, and the expectations of the members, and made the following statement:
'At this point I have reached today, I stand before you as a brother who closely knows the operational structure of our chamber, the needs of our sector, the expectations of our members, and the challenges facing our maritime industry. With all this knowledge and experience, I believe it is now time to serve our chamber under greater responsibility.'
He Officially Announced His Candidacy
At the end of his speech, Düzgit announced his decision to run for office, stating, 'With this belief and the strength I derive from you, I hereby declare my candidacy for the Presidency of the Board of Directors in the İMEAK Chamber of Shipping elections to be held in October-November 2026, with a competent, experienced, and strong team that will represent all segments of our sector.'
