Qatar will host the 2028 World Maritime Day, focusing on global shipping's future, sustainability, and international regulations.

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council made a significant decision during its 137th regular meeting held in London. As a result of the voting, Qatar was granted the right to host the official event of World Maritime Day 2028.

The main focal points of the organization will be the future of the global maritime sector, green transformation and sustainability, and international regulations.

With the decision taken at the 137th session of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council held in London, Qatar has been awarded the hosting rights for the World Maritime Day Parallel Event in 2028. The decision was accepted following a vote among member countries.

The event, which Qatar will host, is expected to bring together government representatives, maritime authorities, port operators, international organizations, and industry leaders from around the world. Topics such as the future of the global maritime sector, sustainable transportation, green transformation, reducing carbon emissions in shipping, digitalization, and the implementation of international regulations will be addressed at the event.

Qatar's achievement in securing the right to host this event is seen as a recognition of the country's investments in maritime and logistics infrastructure in recent years, as well as its active role within the IMO at the international level. The country continues to take on active roles in the IMO Council while standing out with its efforts in maritime safety, environmental protection, and sustainable maritime transportation.

The World Maritime Day Parallel Event in 2028 is expected to host high-level sessions, technical panels, and international cooperation discussions that will contribute to shaping global maritime policies. The organization also aims to pave the way for new collaborations towards the sector's green transformation in line with the IMO's environmentally focused goals.
