THE Qatari ports of Hamad, Doha and Ruwais handled 121,404 TEU in July, up from 105,686 TEU in the previous month of June, according to data released by Mwani Qatar. Last month, the ports handled 90,752 tonnes of general cargo, up from 46,764 tonnes in June. Cargo movement in all categories showed strong growth when compared to June.
The ports handled 7,082 vehicles, 58,269 head of livestock and 29,641 tonnes of building materials in July compared to 4,984 vehicles; 11,230 head of livestock and 26,044 tonnes of building materials in June, reported The Peninsula, Qatar.
A total of 377 vessels called at these three ports in July, representing a month-on-month increase of 18 per cent when compared to June's 318 vessels.
Hamad port alone received 141 vessels in July, and handled 119,824 TEU, 86,221 tonnes of break bulk cargo and 7,016 vehicles.
In the first half of the year, these three ports collectively handled 661,331 TEU, up 2.5 per cent year on year, after receiving calls from a total of 1,828 ships
The ports of Hamad, Doha and Ruwais also handled 218,330 tonnes of building materials between January and June, representing year-on-year growth of 24 per cent.
