Old Dominion Freight Line's LTL tons per day drops 1.4pc in AugustOLD Dominion Freight Line, Inc has announced that less-than-truckload (LTL) tons per day in August declined slightly by 1.4 per cent compared to the same month last year.

The company attributed the decrease to a 1.5 per cent reduction in LTL shipments per day and a 0.1 per cent increase in LTL weight per shipment.

"The decline in Old Dominion's LTL tons per day for August reflects an operating environment that continued to be challenging," said CEO David Congdon.

"The pricing environment has remained relatively stable, however, and quarter-to-date LTL revenue per hundredweight, excluding fuel surcharges, increased between two per cent and 2.5 per cent as compared to the same period last year," he said.

"As a result, our quarter-to-date total revenue per day was slightly below the same period of 2015," he said.

The company provides regional, inter-regional and national LTL services, including ground and air expedited transportation and consumer household pickup and delivery.

In addition to its core LTL services it offers container drayage, truckload brokerage, supply chain consulting and warehousing as value-added services.
