The Port of Oakland handled 184,492 TEU in April, showing stable cargo flows even as vessel arrivals fell from 86 in March to 80, according to a port authority press release.
Imports reached 91,805 TEU while exports totaled 92,687 TEU, continuing a trend of outbound cargo slightly outpacing inbound. Overall volume was down 0.5 percent from April 2025. Full imports stood at 78,822 TEU and full exports at 63,910 TEU. Year-to-date throughput through April was 742,351 TEU, down 5.7 percent from the same period last year.
Officials said the softer figures reflected fewer vessel calls, carrier scheduling changes, and normal month-to-month fluctuations. Larger exchanges per call helped maintain steady throughput despite reduced arrivals.
Maritime Director Bryan Brandes said April's performance highlighted the stability of Oakland's cargo base amid global market adjustments. He noted that carriers continue to optimize deployments, but the port remains a reliable gateway for shippers.
Mr. Brandes added that Oakland's diverse cargo mix and role as a hub for agricultural exports and Northern California trade underpin its resilience, supporting activity even as wider transpacific markets remain volatile.
