The cargo ship NINOVA, stranded for nearly two months, has been successfully salvaged after extensive efforts by the Karasu Coast Guard.
The bulk carrier named 'NINOVA,' which has been stranded on the shore of the Karasu district in Sakarya for nearly two months due to adverse weather conditions, has been successfully rescued after intensive efforts.
The 80-meter-long 'NINOVA,' registered under the Cameroonian flag, ran aground on May 1 due to a storm and unfavorable weather conditions. Following a prepared plan to salvage the vessel, operations commenced on July 7. Under the supervision of the Karasu Coast Guard Command, a transport vessel named 'Bahri Reis - III,' with a capacity of 300 tons, was brought alongside to facilitate the unloading of the 1,775 tons of ammonium sulfate cargo on board.
The cargo was unloaded.
With the assistance of a mobile crane set up for the NINOVA, the cargo was transferred in one-ton packages to the transport vessel, which then transported it to Karasu Port. There, the cargo was loaded onto trucks using mobile cranes and dispatched to safe areas. After the unloading of tons of cargo from the vessel, the operation to rescue the now-lightened ship commenced. Technical interventions, which began on the morning of July 7 and continued uninterrupted until noon on Saturday, July 11, successfully freed the giant vessel from the sandbank it was stuck in. Once refloated, the NINOVA was released into the Black Sea after all necessary inspections were completed.
