Ningbo Ocean Shipping Co invests in four 1,900-TEU boxships, with options for two more, as part of a CNY2.7 billion expansion plan.
Ningbo Ocean Shipping Co (NBOSCO) will invest in four firm 1,900-TEU containerships, with options for two more, as reported by Singapore's Splash 247.
The Shanghai-listed carrier stated that the newbuilding plan is part of a broader investment of up to CNY2.7 billion (US$390 million), which also encompasses containers. The shipbuilding portion is capped at CNY1.7 billion, according to a stock exchange filing.
NBOSCO, a subsidiary of Ningbo-Zhoushan Port Group, operates approximately 90 vessels and ranks 23rd globally among container carriers. The company already has around 15 ships on order as it expands its regional feeder fleet.
This latest move follows a series of orders placed in 2025, including larger 4,300-TEU vessels from CSSC's Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding, signaling a push into bigger feeder and regional trades.
Previous orders also included 2,700 TEU ships built in China, as NBOSCO continues to modernize its fleet with more efficient tonnage.
