Claims of pollutants discharged at EU-approved Aliağa shipyards after a vessel collision, raising serious environmental concerns.
It has been claimed that polluting substances are being discharged into the sea at some shipyards approved by the EU in the Aliağa ship dismantling facilities, and that oil residues were spilled into the sea as a result of a ship colliding with an oil platform.
Incidents leading to environmental pollution have been reported at some ship dismantling facilities operating in the Aliağa Ship Dismantling Facilities. According to a report by Ramis Sağlam from Evrensel Newspaper, serious environmental violations have come to the forefront in recent months in the region, including shipyards listed by the European Union (EU).
According to the news, during the dismantling of the vessel named LILY HA (IMO 8116972) at the Avşar Ship Recycling facility, which is on the EU list, unidentified liquid substances were reported to have been discharged directly into the sea.
The facility management argued that the substance in question is a biochemical cleaner used to eliminate pollution originating from outside the facility, not from the ship itself. However, it was stated that there is still no official report regarding the incident.
