Claims that two commercial vessels were subjected to missile attacks in the Strait of Hormuz have become a focal point of international attention.
According to Reuters, two U.S. officials with knowledge of the matter stated that Iranian forces launched at least two missiles at the two commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Initial assessments indicate that the vessels sustained damage, but no casualties have been reported.
The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) confirmed that a commercial vessel sailing off the coast of Limah, Oman, caught fire after being struck by unidentified munitions. Reuters reported that this incident could be related to the aforementioned attack, but this has not yet been independently verified.
The report noted that there has been no official statement from Iranian authorities claiming responsibility for the attack, while details regarding the incident continue to emerge.
The Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the most critical maritime routes, through which approximately one-fifth of global oil trade passes. Every security incident in the region is closely monitored in terms of energy markets and international maritime transportation.
