According to reports in the British press, the senior Spanish naval officer met Janina White, a dual citizen of the UK and Poland, through the dating app Tinder. It was noted that the two later began a relationship.
However, White's background, being born in the Soviet Union and speaking Russian, caught the attention of security agencies. Following the emergence of suspicions that White might be conducting intelligence activities on behalf of Russia, a security review was initiated regarding the Spanish officer, who had access to sensitive information at NATO.
During the investigation, it was reported that the Spanish officer's security clearance was suspended and his access card to the Northwood military headquarters was revoked.
Spanish authorities subsequently ended the officer's assignment at NATO Allied Maritime Command. The officer returned to Spain after leaving his post in the UK.
