MSC Loreto, a 24,346 TEU containership, makes history at Karachi Port, discharging 3,802 TEU amid ongoing infrastructure improvements.
MSC Loreto has berthed at Karachi Port's South Asia Pakistan Terminals, marking the largest class of vessel handled at the port to date, reported London's Container Management.
The Liberian-flagged vessel, measuring 399.9 metres with a draft of 14.2 metres, carries a nominal capacity of 24,346 TEU and a gross tonnage of 236,184 GT, placing it among the largest containerships in service worldwide.
During the call, MSC Loreto discharged 3,802 TEU. The Karachi Port Trust stated that the operation was supported by ongoing infrastructure investment at the port.
At 24,346 TEU, MSC Loreto is comparable in size to vessels deployed on Asia-Europe services via the Suez Canal. Pakistani ports compete for such direct calls against larger regional hubs including Colombo and Jebel Ali.
